Transform any custom car paint job with EMS pearl pigment powder. Our mica-based pearl pigments are specially suited for automotive applications — delivering a deep, multi-layered pearlescent effect that shifts and shimmers with light. Manufactured in India from natural mica and coated with titanium dioxide or iron oxide, EMS pigments offer consistent colour, excellent heat resistance, and compatibility with most automotive paint systems.
Pearl pigment is added to clear coat or base coat to create a pearlescent finish. Here is the standard process for automotive use:
Tip: For a candy paint effect, mix pearl pigment into a transparent tinted base coat over a silver metallic base. The layering creates a deep, three-dimensional colour.
All EMS pigments work in automotive paint, but these series are particularly popular for car and motorcycle custom work:
How much pearl pigment do I add to automotive clear coat?
Typically 50–150g per litre of clear coat. Start at 100g/L and adjust based on the pearl intensity you want. More pigment gives a stronger pearl effect.
Can EMS pearl pigments be used with waterborne automotive paint?
Yes. EMS pearl pigments are compatible with both solvent-based and waterborne coatings. Always test a small batch first before full application.
Will pearl pigment clog my spray gun?
Not if strained properly. Pass your mixture through a 190–300 micron paint strainer before loading into your spray gun. EMS pigments are 10–60 microns and pass through standard HVLP tips without clogging.
Do I need to use a binder with pearl pigment?
No separate binder is needed. Mix directly into clear coat, base coat, or any compatible automotive paint medium. The paint itself acts as the binder.
Are EMS automotive pigments heat resistant?
Yes. EMS pigments are rated for automotive baking ovens (up to 200°C) and are suitable for OEM and custom automotive refinishing.
